For Term 2, we focused on the Scoutcraft and campcraft badges.
We held a combined night with Beresfield, designed a group t-shirt (still to come), and had many great nights with fire lighting and cooking, learning about hike stoves, and GPS navigation & knots. We prepared food packs for those going on Region Rally, had a very brief fire station visit where we got to see them responding to an emergency and flipped out at Flip out trampolining.
During the term, some Scouts participated in Region rally, held at Camp Cowley, and others took part in a tour of Fort Scratchley and a walk along the ANZAC walk.
During the holidays, a few Scouts helped out at the working bee at Jubile Hall.
For Term 1, 2016, we mainly focused on the Citizenship badge, with other fun things thrown in as well. A rafting night on Haggis’s dam where we built our own raft, as well as lighting fires and cooking sausages was a great start to the term. We cooked pikelets on candle stoves, PLs ran a games night, we held a law and promise night and several nights of first aid.
We were active in the community participating in Clean Up Australia day and manning gates at Steamfest.
Several Scouts attended BP’s birthday bash at Speers Point Park, 4 PLs and APLs attended the Scout Leadership course and Emu Patrol visited Newcastle Fire station.
Term 4 we focused on the Water Activities badge (knots, rigging a boat, water safety, weather), participated in a night run by Seaham Venturers, hiked in the Warrumbungles, went ice-skating and finished the year with a combined Group pool party at Tocal pool.
6 Scouts and Yogi went to the 24th Australian Jamboree at Cataract Park from Jan 2 – 14. A fantastic time was had by all.
Term 3 began with a night of maintenance around Jubilee Hall as part of Job Week, and then continued as we worked on our Citizenship badges with nights themed around 1st Aid, Balloons (including balloon animals and making / launching a hot air balloon), preparation for the district hiking weekend, fitness, landcare, our Scottish international night (eating haggis – the food not our leader!), law and promise, a hike around Paterson and a combined night with other Lower Hunter troops. And of course, lots of games and fun!
In Term 2, we had a Masterchef Italian night, learnt how to tell time and direction by the stars, played lots of fun games, did messy science experiments and took part in Region Rally.
We learnt about taking care of the environment, constructed structures, and had LaserTag come to us. We used tomahawks, built fires, and invited the cubs along to share in our campfire – complete with skits and smores.
