For Term 1, 2016, we mainly focused on the Citizenship badge, with other fun things thrown in as well. A rafting night on Haggis’s dam where we built our own raft, as well as lighting fires and cooking sausages was a great start to the term. We cooked pikelets on candle stoves, PLs ran a games night, we held a law and promise night and several nights of first aid.
We were active in the community participating in Clean Up Australia day and manning gates at Steamfest.
Several Scouts attended BP’s birthday bash at Speers Point Park, 4 PLs and APLs attended the Scout Leadership course and Emu Patrol visited Newcastle Fire station.
Term 3 began with a night of maintenance around Jubilee Hall as part of Job Week, and then continued as we worked on our Citizenship badges with nights themed around 1st Aid, Balloons (including balloon animals and making / launching a hot air balloon), preparation for the district hiking weekend, fitness, landcare, our Scottish international night (eating haggis – the food not our leader!), law and promise, a hike around Paterson and a combined night with other Lower Hunter troops. And of course, lots of games and fun!
Term 4 started off with the District Competition Camp at Quorrobolong. The highlight for most was building the catapult (now known forever as the “patabolt”).
For much of the term, weekly activities revolved around the Citizenship badge, including promise and law activities, an alien visitor and a behind the scenes visit to the hospital. Thanks to Haggis for such a wonderful opportunity!
Other nights included games nights, a practice rafting night on Haggis’s dam, and an “Angry birds” night which involved teams building catapults to fire water balloons.
The term also included the District Rafting camp – again a good time was had by all attendees! On both camps, the boys slept in the old-fashioned Cottage tents (while the girls were snug in their hiking tent!)
Thanks everyone for a great year – see you all again for a bigger and better 2015!
